comment Is raising a child bilingually with English worth the effort?
I consider myself a very fluent English speaker but I still decided against it because there is a difference between "business English" and "relationship English" and I was afraid that there would be some affection missing from our communication.

comment How do you manage free time when you have kids?
My answer is off-topic so putting it in a comment. The lethargy and need for rubbing indicate health issues to me. Please consider a modern diet designed for optimal health, like perfecthealthdiet.com/the-diet . It's not all that hard to follow and it should show results within weeks. Personally I gained a lot of energy and health from it, I'm eating that way for two years now and still loving it. My kids still wreck my sleep but I can cope with it.

comment Is it safe to use a microwave sterilizer to sterilize BPA-free baby bottles?
This may be more suited for skeptics.stackexchange.com . Anyway microwaves only heat the water so the risk is the same in both cases imho.

comment Is it ok to be on diet while pregnant?
No you don't need more folic acid, you need folate. Folic acid is the synthetic precursor and our body can only convert about 260mcg a day, so anything more than that is useless and possibly dangerous. It's best to get folate from food, like daily egg yolks (several of them @25mcg per egg). Egg yolks are like super multi vitamins cholesterol-and-health.com/Egg_Yolk.html

comment new tooth has a black color (baby 8mo old)
@reid actually the skeptics SE already discussed it several times apparently, see skeptics.stackexchange.com/questions/7542/… for the answer I can agree with. Basically getting too much fluoride is not a good idea but if all is well the level maintained in drinking water is ok. Personally I think that that level should be enough and no supplemental fluoride is needed if the diet is nutritious.

comment Two year old afraid to go on potty
If it's any consolation, we endured the same thing for 6 months and suddenly it was over. We still don't know what did the trick... I did try to keep her on the potty for a very long time right around due time by giving her macadamia nuts as long as she remained seated. That may have helped a little.

@Nat Why would you supplement fluoride? It's not like adding it to water is a good idea either... See this review of fluoride supplementation. If you want your kid to have strong teeth, don't give it any sugar ever and make sure they get Vitamin D and K2 (e.g. from sunlight and butter).

I'm kinda worried that she'd start being germ-phobic then :-/

comment Toddler likes to hurt herself?
Is she really hurting herself? What may look painful if you were to do it is quite different when you're 1/4th your height. It could be just a game. I would start worrying if she shows other behaviors where pain and pleasure seem mixed up - perhaps there is something physiological going on.

comment Are the “gentlease” and “sensitive” infant formulas anything more than sugar water?
Right, and to be honest I never made it, but I wish I could. The misses and I don't see eye-to-eye on this. So I resorted to using the formula with the least allergens ignoring dairy (so no wheat, soy, maize or egg white), with a near 1:1 balance of the long Omega 3 and 6 fats (look at AA and DHA/EPA numbers) and only lactose for sugars, and a sensible vitamin/mineral mix. It takes a lot of box peering and some research but it's replacing something immensely complicated and optimized. As soon as the baby is old enough she'll be getting real foods from good sources.

comment Explaining to a toddler when masturbation is appropriate
I just realized that this question will still be on the internet in 15 years time where her friends will find it (and applaud her probably). So I'm just saying hi to her future friends :-). In all seriousness, perhaps this sort of question should be a "friend of mine" question to avoid future privacy concerns?
