How accurate are the “Suggested Age Ranges” of toys? Just to jump in on that specific ball popper, for a single child it can be pretty boring. However, when multiple kids get togther it can be the center of impromptu game that is more fun than a 3 year old can handle. |

How much credence should be given to building a “growth mindset”? Is there an answerable question here? You've read the studies and now you want ancedotal evidence? |

How can I help my child to stay still? I think DA01 may have misread the "my wife has the same problem" statement. My reading is that "my wife has the same problem keeping our son still" but DA01 seems to take it as "my wife has the same problem sitting still". Which is it? |

What aspects should we consider when choosing a name for our child? @dave 1 in 4 is a bit of a stretch. 'Christopher' for example has been in the top 10 for most of the last 40 years. During my schooling, I was rarely in class with another Christopher (or Chris). |

What aspects should we consider when choosing a name for our child? Why avoid popular names? Are you afraid you might confuse your child with someone else's? |

Why use rice cereal as a first food? Not an answer, but our doctor did not recommend rice as my son's first solid food. We started with puréed fruit and then oatmeal. |

What are the pros and cons of using a nanny-cam? Just a thought, some day care centers near me (in Metro Detroit) have password protected webcams so parents can check-in through out the day. I won't debate the merits of in-home vs. center-based care, but you certainly can get better monitoring of employees in some centers. |

What are some fun (no TV or computer) activities that a 2 year old and a 4 year old would enjoy together? Have you tried just letting them play and see what they like to do together? Or are you trying to create a structured activity for a reason? |

What are good ways to begin preparing a child for a new baby? @Christine I understand your point, but the question how much and how early do you need to prepare a young child for a sibling. Most professional guidance suggests talking about it early in the pregnancy, not months or years before. So while the "what-if" may seem like a slim chance, the benefit of starting early is equally slim. |

How do my wife and I stop our son from learning to swear from us? Speaking as someone who can use all the best words the US Navy has to offer, if they were "just words" it wouldn't be hard to switch. Nope, they definitely carry weight. |
