Married in May 2010, with one daughter born in March 2011. I have a bachelors in math, and in my free time, I'm a developer on mutantmarionette.com (an AI programming game).

When is too young to give up the nap? Quiet time is a great habit to start, according to my friends with multiple kids. It gives you an hour or so of quiet time when all the kids are in their rooms. |

Techniques for teaching children from the start about how to read advertising? "Ad Time" sounded a bit weird at first, but I like your point about showcasing how artificial advertisements can be. Looking at an ad critically leaves you with a totally different impression than watching in passively. |

What are important legal and financial steps for new parents? I have never gone through this first hand, but I've read that the court charges fees to your estate for having to divy up your stuff for you-- fees that would probably cost more than writing a will. |

How to remove brown stains from colored underwear? I haven't tried a biological washing powder like @noelicus suggested (I've usually heard them called "enzyme cleaners", or something similar), but I have heard rave reviews from people who have used them. If you haven't tried it, you should give it a shot. |

How do I get an easily distracted 5 year old to eat more? +1 for "don't push beyond the child's desires". Unless he begins to look malnourished, I would let his own hunger dictate the amount of food eaten, and just make sure the food he does eat is nutritious. |

What is the best strategy for adjusting an toddler's sleep cycle during Daylight Savings? This is actually a great idea, and it would apply any time you need to adjust a child's schedule (going from summer to getting up for school, change in parent's work times, long vacation in a nearby time zone, etc.) |

When should a child transition through the different car seats, to none, and to the front seat? Thank you! It was a very thorough question, which helped. |

What's the best way to extract baby snot? I was surprised at first that they would even sell something like that, but I tried it out on my hand, and the suction didn't seem strong enough to be dangerous. |

Are vitamin supplements necessary for newborns? Would you mind if we made this question more general (as in, for both formula and breastfed babies?) I would like to know if they are necessary for breastfed babies as well, but i feel like writing a second question would be too repetitive. |

How often should my wife breastfeed our newborn? 4 hours did sound long to me, but that was the number the doctor I was linking to gave. The main point I wanted to get across was not to let your newborn sleep through the night before 2 weeks. |

Is the “1 2 3 Magic” strategy for disciplining effective? For the most part I agree with this answer, except for the "straight to punishment" part. For younger kids (2 or 3), their memories aren't as consistent as older children, and they can legitimately forget being punished for something just a few days earlier. Reminding them they are misbehaving, by counting or otherwise, gives them the benefit of the doubt. After that though, definitely punish them consistently. |

When should a child see Star Wars: A New Hope This question seems both too vague and too specific at the same time. |
