comment How can I help a child who won't talk to anybody at school? Selective mutism
I'm not saying they are the same thing. I'm saying there is probably a reason for the selective mutism, and I was suggesting something like Asperger's might be such a reason.

comment Not teaching a child how to speak
Still, sign languages are important proof that languages can develop relatively quickly from scratch within communities of potential speakers.

comment Should you let a toddler win?
Your first paragraph is misleading. A game is a game because it poses some sort of a challenge - and indeed, many children's games aren't much of a challenge for adults, but that isn't necessarily true, and I think it's beside the point anyway.

So what? The concept of this site is that a question can have multiple answers.

comment Just found out my daughter might be gay. Now what?
Your last two sentences apply just as well (probably even more) to the interaction between you and your daughter. Anything you do or say may affect your relationship with her, which is probably more important to her than any friendship or relationship she has with others. If she's confused or insecure, you don't want to be the cause.

comment My 5 year- old daughter is constantly defiant!
He may have a point there. If you're constantly telling her "no", she's trying to beat you at your own game. You'll need to find a way of telling her "yes" more often.

comment How do you deal with when you've had a “parenting fail”?
Apologise to the child and try to be a better listener next time.

comment How to tell my son (10yo), somebody he knows as a man, is actually a woman?
@DA01: I think what is meant is: openly being gay.

comment Is it ever okay to tell a kid you disagree with their parents?
I agree it's OK as long as you present it as a personal feeling: "I don't much like ..."

comment Why don't kids like vegetables?
Good point. Well, I read that answer somewhere, apparently our taste changes quite dramatically over time and small children tend to prefer sweet more than older children or adults do, in general.

comment How should I handle academic disagreement with a teacher?
The 'always' is a little optimistic.

comment What are the objective arguments against immunizations for infants and children?
@Masterz: when people are sweating profusely in front of me, one thing I may ask is: have they just been running or climbing stairs? If not, I may ask them whether it is hot outside. Does that mean there is obviously a connection between climbing stairs and the weather? Only in that they may cause similar symptoms.

comment How should a toddler be encouraged to walk (if at all)?
Does this toddler need encouragement, or will it only discourage him?

comment Is there any scientific evidence in favor of co-sleeping with children?
My sleep was much lighter, in fact light enough that I was confident I was with the children when we slept together, rather than being a danger to them.

comment My child doesn't want to be seen in public with me… what should I do?
I suppose it's the ''concern'' .. at some point children want to feel like they have a modicum of free will at their disposal.

comment Is there any consensus among researchers concerning the effects of watching television and the likes for a child's development?
Don't confuse correlation with causation!

comment Is crib use (mostly) universal?
I'd like to add that when I sleep alone, I am a pretty deep sleeper, but when I slept with two babies, which I've done for a few months, my sleep was much lighter, and all three of us were comfortable all of the time.
