comment Does a water softener add sodium to your drinking water?
To add - the salt in a water softening system is only used during the regeneration/recharge cycle, in which the salt is used to flush out the other minerals in the system and not directly used in the water we use. See: homerepair.about.com/od/plumbingrepair/ss/water_softener_7.htm

@Beofett - Perhaps it would be better to move to diy.so, instead of outright closing it?

comment 12 month old doesn't understand what we say
@ElizabethMarie - Here are WebMD's descriptions for 10 and 11 month milestones - webmd.com/parenting/baby/baby-development-11-month-old webmd.com/parenting/baby/baby-development-10-month-old . It sounds like he's about on par with regard to walking/cruising, at least. I recommend finding a play group to help his social/communication skills. It's amazing what little kids can teach each other.

@DaveClarke - The actual city doesn't really matter. The point is that some places have a public service program and that the asker should see if her area has one.

comment How can I get my 2.5 year old to sleep on his own?
I know it sounds counterintuitive, but have you tried an earlier bedtime? You might be going beyond his point of "I'm tired" and into "overtired" territory, where it actually becomes harder to fall asleep.

comment Is it traumatic for a toddler to be left in their bedroom with the door shut?
@Urbycoz - Have you checked out the book The No-Cry Sleep Solution? It might be worth trying. On the other end, there is, of course, Ferber's and Weissbluth's "cry it out" methods, as well, though I don't know how much use they would be, given the lack of effect the Supernanny one has been (might be worth trying, though).

comment How do I get a young toddler to walk holding my hand?
Additionally, some stores have carts with cars (or some other "riding toy" designed for little kids), I've found that to work better than the cart's standard seat. It might be worth trying if your store has them.

+1 for mentioning the "it might just be her nature" aspect.
