How do I make sure I don't mix up identical twin newborns? I guess you mean psychologists instead of physicists. Physics involves very little twins, where psychology loves them. |

Should I be concerned that my 10 month old toddler still doesn't know how to pronouce words but just says “er…er…er…” instead? My sons sort of speak three languages: English as common language and Dutch and Mandarin as both our own languages. What we have found and read is that such complexity may slightly delay the level of speech in an individual language. |

How do I stop my daughter from hitting another child? If the young one provokes, punish too. Physical "violence" is not acceptable. Provoking is (to a lesser degree) not acceptable either. If there is just a verbal argument, let them learn to resolve arguments by themselves (just monitor, don't intervene) |

How can the god-parent obtain legal custody of children when single parent is comatose? Also, beyond being named a godparent. "A" would probably have to show her acting as a godparent. The more involvement in the daily life of the children the better. |

How to react to “cruelty” of a toddler? Two and a half is more than old enough to know what behaviour gets him punished / is not appreciated by his parents. And yes, it is also an age when children like to "rattle the cage" and test the borders. |

How to react to “cruelty” of a toddler? We do this. Violence (to people, not stuffed toys) is an immediate roomable(getting send to their room) offence. At the same time, I think it is important to have degrees of punishments. Apply this immediate no-warning response only to a limited set of behaviours. That avoids children getting confused on what is more or less important (what is really bad behaviour versus less desirable). |

At what age should opposite-sex siblings stop bathing together? @Nick DeVore I don't think such a question cues to lack of comfort. I know it's a hard question to answer, but to me it's important to teach children about the differences in gender in a way that doesn't demonise "privates" |

What do I do about the fact that my child can already read, write and do math before entering Kindergarten? As a kid, I had the primary school problem. I was "lucky" in that I used to keep a book in my drawer, that I opened to read, and pretended to do the school work or pay attention. At the same time, it did not quite teach me to work hard at all. |

What do I do about the fact that my child can already read, write and do math before entering Kindergarten? @Hairy: To me this is absolute failure of the teacher. Unfortunately it's hard to find good schools for smart kids, and sometimes the smart kid problem is not recognized. |
