Hello, world!

I'm a father of one pre-schooler and one toddler. My stake in this site is to learn from you, and also to contribute as much as I can!

Based on my own childhood and parenthood, my specialties are (among others): twins, languages, and international aspects. For the record, I'm an identical twin and married to a fraternal twin. I speak 4 languages fluently and I've lived in 5 countries (Europe, Japan).

I enjoy using my experience to help others. That is why I am active at even more SE sites in the StackExchange network on topics that interest me.

valuable flair!

Outside of this site, I'm something of a Swiss army knife both professionally and in private, able to juggle a wild variety of things at once. I've worked in every kind of business that uses software. I'm also very good with tools, both IT and mechanic. Whether you need software design or assembling some IKEA furniture, I'm your man for the job. I'm generally soft-spoken but driven by clear principles.

To learn more about me, see my Google+ profile.

comment Are there any effects from lying to your children?
Good point! By modeling this behavior, the parents are actually teaching her that it's okay and normal to deceive, to lie, to trick, in order to do whatever you want. The girl will do a lot of things behind the parents' back, and that can have serious consequences.

@LowKianSeong: You don't have to reward her. It's only a habit - and one you need to break! Otherwise that is something that definitely will leave a lasting impression in her psyche: she will expect to be rewarded for behavior that ought to be expected. This is an evil circle of entitlement that will become very expensive and never satisfying. Break that habit before your child gets older!

comment My pre-schooler is out of control, and I feel like my parents are undermining my relationship and authority with her
@user6460, does your dad support your stance in any way? Seeing that you only need that little extra money, would it be possible that he would lend you financial aid to move out, obviously without involving your mom? Slippery, I know, but worth a thought.

@user6460 when you eventually do talk to your mom, tell politely that you sometimes feel like she needs a timeout. Not as an accusation but as a way to express your feelings.

comment I am not sure how I can help my girlfriend. Looking for some guidance
I don't see how the ex could have any kind of legal demand for custody. Not married, not divorced, that only gives him obligations but no rights. Are you sure she even needs to do anything to "win"?
