revised Can I figure out what my baby wants by the sound it makes when it cries?
I have trimmed the text because the focus of the question is not the specific theory but rather the general idea.

comment How do I transition a toddler to foods with texture?
Aarthi's list of small and soft foods is excellent. We do that too and it works well. By letting the child grab his food, he becomes familiar with the texture in his hands before it's in his mouth (although it does get messy sometimes).

comment When and how can we stop giving our toddler formula in the evening?
@Lennart That depends on when the child had dinner. Our son gets his dinner at least an hour before the bottle, often two hours before, so he might well develop new hunger before breakfast. It's worth taking into account at least, even though I agree that over time the bottle becomes more of a mind habit than a meal.

+1 for the idea of diplomacy. However I would be very careful with the salt trick even though the amount of salt is probably no concern in itself. But it might have adverse side-effects, like not liking regular/"adult" food based on this experience, when that food has a discernible salty taste.

comment How can we make a long road trip pleasant for a toddler and the parents?
+1 for the idea of starting with a half-sleeping kid, very early. Sounds like a good recipe.

If you have a jailbroken iPhone, "IncarerApp" disables the home button, so you could fire up his favorite app and be sure he won't wreak havoc on your address book.

+1 for a new toy, and for stopping in parks rather than normal rest areas.

comment Can we afford to have a baby?
+1 for emphasizing how new parents are being preyed upon and guilted into buying stuff. It can be really hard to resist! Only in hindsight will parents realize that they really don't need much.
