comment Are similar-sounding names a good choice for siblings?
@Torben: I'm pretty sure that these names would be used for teasing even if they had no siblings at all. :-)

The things used for teasing, like names, are always just excuses for teasing, not actual causes.

comment How much direction does a preschooler need while doing crafts?
@Marie: It's obviously not meant literally. Geez. But yeah, what I mean with direction and what HedgeMage means are obviously different things, so I'll modify the answer to adjust. (My grandmas neighbors cattle followed directions in the form of a stick just fine, so I think we disagree on that, but whatever).

So, we did that, no difference.

comment How do we help our toddler to sleep through the night?
@Swati: It made zero difference. I don't think she wakes up to pee, but it's a bit hard to know.

comment How do we help our toddler to sleep through the night?
This isn't an answer, it is a comment. But we tried moving her into her own room, it made absolutely no difference. There is no "Hungry baby" formula here.

comment How can I encourage my 13 month old to stand?
Although I agree with "not worrying" I want to say that I think it is important to create challenges for you child so he/she develops on all levels. Standing is one such. Encourage it, help her "train". On everything. :-)

comment What are the most important features to look for in a baby monitor?
The most important feature is that it makes you trust it so you feel less worried. I'd say everything else is pretty much irrelevant, as that's the whole point of the baby monitor. :-)

comment How can I handle a child that claims medical problems as a bad excuse?
Well, I don't really know, but I would more or less ignore it. Especially I wouldn't let the excuse work. If their excuses doesn't work they probably stop using them, right?

@BBM: Good ones, add them as an answer.

I think a list could be good, but it should then be community wiki.

comment Should we switch from cloth to disposable diapers?
@user606723: It generates less trash so it's probably better for the environment, and it is cheaper, especially if you can reuse them for a second child, I hear.

comment Can a newborn feel pain in the umbilical stump?
There's no nerves in the stump, but the skin where it's attached (what later becomes the bellybutton) does have nerves. I'd expect something that causes bleeding will hurt a bit.

comment Should the nanny quit when the parents don't care about their dangerous children?
Parents that just laugh when their kids threaten to kill the nanny is IMO criminal neglect. I'd quit and call appropriate authorities.

comment Are calcium supplements helpful for a teething infant?
You can definitely injure yourself on ice, so make sure the frozen cloth is only cold, not frozen solid. I'd put it in a cold fridge instead.

comment Are calcium supplements helpful for a teething infant?
In Poland there is something called "Bobodent" which you can rub on the gums to help relieve the teething pains. It turns out to contain extract of Chamomille (anti-inflammatory it seems), Thymol (anti-bacterial) and Lidocaine (pain-killer/itching-relief). It's awesome! See if something similar is available in your country.

comment How do we get our toddler to gain weight?
When the question was posed she had basically been at 10kg for 4 months, and she stayed there for a month longer, but now she has started gaining again.

Well, we tried that, and it didn't work.

comment 8yo has crazy mood swings and gets mad over nothing
This could be anything from that she doesn't like school to a medical condition (especially considering she is complaining about pains). 1. Talk to her and ask why she is like this. 2. If that doesn't help, go see a professional.

comment When and how can we stop giving our toddler formula in the evening?
Many kids will continue to use the bottle to help them fall asleep even though they aren't hungry.
