Is “hot saucing” bad parenting? Even if you want to teach your kid that "what goes around comes around " I don't see how lying to them would help you teach them that. Unless of course, those lies come back to you and punish you some way. |

Should we switch from cloth to disposable diapers? Which is why I said "probably". :-) Making a disposable diaper is likely to use a lot of chemicals compared to a bit of detergent. But I haven't done a full study, so I don't know for sure. |

How can I help my pre-schooler to relax and fall asleep? I also had this problem when I was a kid, and I would lie staring at the wall/ceiling for ages. For me, what I discovered worked, was just simple fantasizing, about pretty much anything. Being an astronaut, flying with Biggles, whatever. Don't know why it worked, but it's worth a try. |

What age do you stop reading bedtime stories? You don't have to do voices. I've never heard about Ready Freddy, but if the problem isn't the "out-loud" but that you simply find the stories themselves boring, then I can recommend Terry Pratchett's "Truckers", "Diggers" and "Wings". They are fun to read even for adults. Also, anything by Astrid Lindgren. |

Are similar-sounding names a good choice for siblings? @Torben: I'm pretty sure that these names would be used for teasing even if they had no siblings at all. :-) |

Are similar-sounding names a good choice for siblings? The things used for teasing, like names, are always just excuses for teasing, not actual causes. |

How much direction does a preschooler need while doing crafts? @Marie: It's obviously not meant literally. Geez. But yeah, what I mean with direction and what HedgeMage means are obviously different things, so I'll modify the answer to adjust. (My grandmas neighbors cattle followed directions in the form of a stick just fine, so I think we disagree on that, but whatever). |

How do we help our toddler to sleep through the night? @Swati: It made zero difference. I don't think she wakes up to pee, but it's a bit hard to know. |

How do we help our toddler to sleep through the night? This isn't an answer, it is a comment. But we tried moving her into her own room, it made absolutely no difference. There is no "Hungry baby" formula here. |

How can I encourage my 13 month old to stand? Although I agree with "not worrying" I want to say that I think it is important to create challenges for you child so he/she develops on all levels. Standing is one such. Encourage it, help her "train". On everything. :-) |
