comment Should I stop my infant from sucking his thumb?
"As he grows older, he will gradually forgo this habit." - Or gradually learn to hide it from you. Depends on the kid.

It is is not a great way to comfort yourself at all. It can cause dental problems and it's almost impossible to get the kid to quit.

comment When is physical punishment appropriate?
Btw, I just saw this, and came to think of this discussion. It's a list of countries who has fallen into chaos with total lack of discipline and respect: raddabarnen.se/Documents/vad-vi-gor/varlden/vald-och-overgrepp/… No, just kidding, it's of course a map over countries where physical punishment of children is illegal.

comment What aspects should we consider when choosing a name for our child?
Yes, exactly my point. They will have infinite problems as their names ofte can't even be entered into American systems. Also Michał (which you in addition have no clue how to pronounce unless you are Polish) or for that matter Hallgrimur which is simply unpronouncable for most English-speakers. (Remember "Eyjafjallajökull"?)

@DaveClarke 1. I'm not Polish. 2. The world is anglo-centric, that's why. This is not ridicolous, it's pragmatic. Having non-ascii characters in your name causes problems. Being Swedish and having lived in Norway, iceland, France and Poland, I'm perfectly aware that they are "normal letters" in other alphabeths than English.

@IanRingrose I know. Did you read what I wrote? Is anything unclear?

@IanRingrose Only if the socket already has protection that covers the live unless you plug something in. In that case, adding more protection will indeed not help. ;-)

comment How can I get my 12-month baby to sleep in her bed?
I edited this to get rid of the irrelevant (and frankly quite belittling) argumentative part, and kept the recommendation, which is good. That way I avoid having to downvote it and can upvote it instead.

comment What is the best way to transition from away from co-sleeping
"He can be sleeping in his bed next to yours" - In which case he is NOT sleeping in your bed. "he can be sleeping in his bed with a gap between his and yours" - in which case he is NOT sleeping in your bed. "should I continue?" - If you like. But yes, if the kid accepts sleeping in the same room as a substitute, that's good, but it is still not in your bed.

comment What are the key considerations when selecting a potty?
Changing to this as selected best answer, because this is exactly our experience. You could probably superglue some weights to the bottom of it to fix the "sticky-flaw".
