comment 8yr old boy - afraid of too many things, too laid-back, lacks zeal to compete
We've talked to doctors and psychologists and tried a few medications. We found one that's been working fairly well. It's something that differs from child to child so it's hard to suggest broad solutions.

Our child is #2 and #3. #2, I think, just stems from being introverted. He enjoys competing, but could care less about winning or losing. In some ways, that's perhaps a good thing. As for #3, in his (and his dad's--ie, me) case = ADD.

comment Should we see a Speech Development Specialist?
All good advice about TV, but it doesn't address whether or not they should see a speech pathologist. (at almost 3 years, I'm th inking they should).

I think the only way to be older is to wait.

comment How does one address Christianity with their children in a mixed faith marriage?
Hard to answer this since religion is really a personal thing. I'm an atheist, but find theology a fascinating world. Perhaps that's one approach: world religions. Or if you want to just focus on Christianity, there's plenty of corporations that produce Sunday-school curriculums. Perhaps look through them to find one that fits your personal preferences.

comment How do you manage free time when you have kids?
While 'health problems' may very well be legitimate, saying a particular diet is a cure is silly. Suggesting they go see a doctor and consider diet changes would be a more appropriate suggestion.

comment How do I tell my mom that I am not Christian?
But if that's the type of parent we're dealing with, than the answer is "you can't explain it without upsetting her". (which I'd say is an acceptable answer, even if it doesn't directly answer the question)

comment How can I tell parents of a 1-year-old that they're doing it wrong?
Spending an hour a day with the child is huge. That's good of you. And good idea seeing if the girls can pitch in too. Good luck with it all!

If you're willing, I'd simply ask if they'd be OK with you helping with the 1 year old. There's a ton of other issues here (obviously) going on with the parents that you maybe don't have much hope in fixing, but if you can reach out to the one year old, at least the one year old has you.

comment Do babies who watch TV start speaking late?
TV is not good for babies, but it's impossible for us to tell you that is the issue here. You need to see your pediatrician and/or a pediatric speech pathologist.

@clockwork-Muse I think that's a huge stretch to assume most Christians think other religions are bad. I'm sure many due, but certainly not anything close to 'most'. Also stating you will 'pray' for someone knowing they don't share your religion is just plain rude (if not insulting).

Whether or not it creates tension does nothing to change the fact that the burden is on the parent here. Saying it as I suggest is about the least confrontational way to go about it.

It is really up to your parents. It's hard for us to say how to not upset your parents without understanding what your parents may or may not be upset with.

comment Should I expect a boy to ask me for permission for prom?
It'd be nice if he did, but I don't think that's the norm anymore. A bit of a relic from a few generations ago.

Being constantly stressed and without free time seems pretty 'normal' for dual-working parents of two small children. :/

Not much use for a changing table after the diapers are done, though. Hence the decision to purchase something repurposable.

@defaultlocale the typical response is "so, tell me when you made the big life decision to be straight?"

They're primary colors. They'll match any kids room! :) (I can see your wife's point. But maybe try to remind her that the kids furniture has a shelf life of maybe 2 years and then it's gone...)

"I would like to teach my child about my religion" = at that point, it's really just a personal decision you'll have to make on your own.
