comment Preschooler can't sing, but sings anyway - loudly!
Whether he is or isn't ultimately talented at music, music lessons are still a great way to improve the brain. FWIW.

comment neighbour's Marijuana effects on infant
Also, have you talked to the neighbor? Perhaps you can come to an agreement that they won't partake in it during certain times of the day, or maybe moving to a different room further away from your baby's?

There have been some studies that show pot smoke is less harmful mainly due to there being less additives. But for an infant, smoke is smoke and not healthy for the child. Is there enough smoke coming in from an open window to cause problems? Hard to say.

The issue is 'second hand smoke' so I'd start there in your research. Whether tobacco or pot, it's the smoke that you need to worry about and, ideally, you don't expose infant lungs to second hand smoke.

comment At what age can a child be left alone in a parked car?
Asking 'what is acceptable' outside the legal definitions doesn't seem like a question that's going to have an agreed upon answer.

comment Pros and cons of C section (Cesarean) delivery?
Yes, you should be aware of all the potential side effects, both for this pregnancy and any future ones. This is really something you need to discuss with your doctor(s), however.

What benefit would placing plastic sheets in a crib have?

comment Is it harmful to let a 4 month old baby eat an Easter peep?
Of course we can't possibly understand all the variables and details of this particular situation when we only have 3 sentences to work off of. But, in general, if a parent sees a friend doing things that they feel endangers the children, I think it's OK to be worried about that. What should they do based on that worry, however, is a whole other issue that we'd need a whole lot more details to be able to properly answer.

@Chrys given that part of being friends is often looking after each other's children, I'd say one should be rather worried if they feel their friends are endangering their children. (Whether they should confront them about that is another debate...)

comment How do I tell my parents I'm no longer Christian?
"and your parents want what is best for you" = certainly not if they are willing to stop supporting their child based on their religious beliefs.

comment Can the council demand that a 16yo shares a bedroom with a 1yo?
@Shauna I can't tell by the question. Is it asking what the council's policy is, or are they asking us if a 16 year old and 1 year old should share a room.

This sounds like a legal question...not a parenting question.

Not a bad answer, but it feels you might be blurring science and religion there.

Define 'personal character'. I don't think this question is really answerable in its current form. But yea, in general, education builds character.

"diagnosed with superior intelligence" ... not sure that's a medical issue. Regardless, you need professional counseling here. We simply can't answer the question on the internet. Try and find a child psychologist if you can. They can help steer you in a particular direction.

comment Is raising a child bilingually with English worth the effort?
"worth the effort" is a hard variable to answer given how subjective that answer will be in the context of parenting.

comment At what age should I explain to my kids that we don't believe in God?
@dave one does not have to frame it as a belief system to communicate that people believe in different things. For instance, in our family, we simply state 'mom believes this, dad does not'. That, in and of itself, communicates that people believe different things--including some that don't believe it at all.

While a valid question, if you are only at the 'thinking of adopting soon' stage, there's probably some other higher priority things to consider. ;)

comment How do you determine if a child is ready for a pet?
I think a parent just has to make that call based on what they know of their own child. One suggestion I'd have is to start small: Fish. Maybe a hamster.
