comment Why do humans require assistance in childbirth so frequently?
"Tradition, herd mentality, and (unfortunatly) economical gain"...umm...sure...but your also missing things like Medical Improvements, helping each other, modern technologies, etc. Your answer seems to imply that there's no statistical reason to give birth in a hospital.

comment I am 24 years old. I found marijuana and ecstasy my 17 year old sister's room. What should I do?
Yes, it definitely could potentially not be OK. But that's different than "never OK". My point being that it's important to be concerned, but also to be pragmatic and not over-react as well.

"It's never ok." = it's often OK. NOT that you should let the 17 year old make that call on her own, but I think it's also important to realize that experimenting with drugs (be it ecstasy or beer or what have you) is extremely common and many (most) people turn out completely OK.

comment Why are parents so concerned about profanity around their children?
This doesn't answer the question and is self promotion.

@smillig that's entirely up to the OP

comment At what age can a child be left alone in a parked car?
Depends on the car, where you live, the temperature outside, the temperment of the child, social norms in your region, laws in your region, etc, etc.

comment How to handle my baby boy urinating in bath?
Trivia: Boys will pee in the shower their entire life. ;) As for the baby, just keep it in the tub and you'll be fine. Pee is sterile.

comment Should I teach my kid how to lie?
Being a good liar encourages a career in sales.

comment When should I allow a child to swear?
Stating that people shouldn't have any reason to use language in the way they see fit is more of a subjective opinion. It's a valid opinion to have, but still purely subjective.

comment What are the best tv shows for a 3 year old
Impossible to answer what is 'best'. In general, TV isn't great for 3 year olds, but it sounds like you're plopping her in front of Nickelodeon and PBS Kids, and that seems as good as any.

A cursory search shows that Levitt's conclusion isn't necessarily shared by all researchers.

comment How to fit 3 children car seats into the back of a car
"So, what's the standard solution for this problem" = In the US, it's called a mini-van. Not the ideal solution for a lot of reasons, but does accomodate the car-seat issue. Regardless, I don't know where you live, but in the US a lot of Fire Departments will do car seat installs/inspections for you. Check with them to see if your car can even handle 3 seats properly.

comment Do children need hot meals twice a day?
I'd say 'hearty' is a highly subjective term and isn't based on nutritional needs as much as it is on the weather.

comment Do children need hot meals twice a day?
The temperature of the food isn't really the key thing to worry about.

comment Does a newborn *need* some kind of cradle?
Soft rocking certainly helps a child sleep, but it's by no means a requirement.

@MasonWheeler I think we're roughly on the same page.

comment What is an appropriate age to talk to you child about alcohol?
"Go ahead and scare him. Why not?" = because it's not necessarily scary, and once the child has their first beer and realized the world didn't end, they now may second guess a lot of what the parent had said. Instead, just be honest. Alcohol can cause a lot of problems for some people. But for a lot of people, it's not a problem at all.

comment Is it considered harmful in the longer run to frighten the child so that he behaves the way we want?
Making children scared of the police seems like a bad idea all around. That said, plenty of kids grow up fearing a god of some sorts--for better or worse, I guess.

comment What are the differences between a child who was born vaginally versus via caesarean section?
"delivery by caesarean section is simple" = a c-section, while common, is still major surgery. It's hardly 'simple'.
