comment Travelling with three little ones without a car
Are you asking if taking the bus is harder with 3 kids vs 2? I suppose it is...roughly 50% harder. I imagine the biggest hurdle would be going as a solo parent. Lots of 2-child strollers. Not many 3-child ones.

comment What's the process to select a School?
Definite +1 for checking the cafeteria. A frustratingly forgotten aspect of education in a lot of cases. We can from 'struggling' district that had a GREAT food program to a 'top tier' district that services the nastiest stuff.

"However, when you compare the school's current score to its scores from previous years you can see whether the school is improving and growing or whether it is faltering" = or you can tell how well the school has figured out how to 'teach to the test'. Sadly, these tests have become important as measuring tools, but what they measure is how well they can teach the kids how to pass these particular tests which isn't necessarily an indication of how well they are being educated in general.

comment How do I address a teacher humiliating my son by calling him a “tattletale”?
That's a terrible thing for a teacher to do.

comment The school has assigned reading I feel is inappropriate for my son to read. How do I approach this problem with the school and with my son?
there's no real answer to this. it depends on all sorts of factors that are mostly personal to the parent.

comment What to do with many painted pictures/ handicraft work
+1. I do the same. I can't stand to toss the artwork out, but with a few seconds and the iPhone, upload to Flickr, and now I have a 'permanent' copy.

comment My baby fell from the bed. Is there any problem?
"50 inch from the floor" that's a crazy-high bed. As for the question, you need to speak to a doctor, which I'd do ASAP given a fall from that height.

comment Combing head lice from very curly frizzy hair
If it's a boy (or even a girl, but they tend to be more averse to this suggestion) one optoin is to just get out the clippers and buzz cut it. My son has extremely thick hair and combing was a nightmare. Even he has agreed that if it happens again, we're just shaving it off.

comment How can firearms be secured from children?
+1 as this actually answers the question as to how to SECURE a weapon (the other answers talk about gun training--which is good, but doesn't answer the question)

-1 for suggesting 'high shelf'. That's just setting up a precedent for poor firearms management. Also keep in mind that many different people may have access to a house...friends, relatives, etc, etc.

comment Am I wrong in what I did? Locking a door on a screaming toddler at bed time!
I humbly suggest some marriage counseling. In reading your question, I think there's a LOT more going on than this one particular issue.

comment Is putting a 9-year-old to bed early abusive?
Your teacher thinks it may be abusive. You do not. It's not really a question that we can answer here, as it's going to be entirely subjective. All that said, if it's working for your child and they aren't upset, then I don't see the harm.

I'd just share your thoughts on it with your children. "Mommy believes this, Daddy believes this."

Typical? no. "Normal"? Who's to say?

comment My toddler has dandruff in her hair, and we've found tiny insects on her scalp
Easiest solution: shave the head. Not all kids (or parents) will opt for that, however. Barring that, get ready to spend some long hours with a fine comb and delousing shampoo.

comment 14 yr old lesbian/bi daughter
I think you may be overcomplicating the justifications. Why didn't you allow the boy in her room? Was it sex? What part of sex were you against? All of it? The pregnancy part? etc. I think you maybe just have to ask more questions of yourselves to figure it out. Good luck!

comment Autistic child constantly mobbed by other children - what can be done?
The problem is the other kids, not the one with autism. This has to be handled by others...parents, teachers, other parents, the community, maybe police, etc.

comment At what age is it no longer appropriate for your child to be naked in public (e.g. on the beach)?
The answer is dependent on the opinion of those sharing the beach with you.
