Installing car seat base…how tight is good enough? @TorbenGundtofte-Bruun not sure 'most people' have the 'most modern' cars out there. Ours is only a few years old and has the same old shoulder belts I've always had (tensioned only at shoulder end). So I think it's good policy to educate people that it needs to be tight rather than rely on the seat belt system itself. |

Installing car seat base…how tight is good enough? this SHOULDER part locks, but if it's loose, then the lap part will be loose as well in the case of an accident. |

Installing car seat base…how tight is good enough? +1 for the knee option. We'd have to do the same in our old Subaru. Basically, I'd climb on top of the seat. If the angle is off, a few (not many--just a few) towels strategically placed underneath can help. |

Installing car seat base…how tight is good enough? "generally how tight should the car seat base be" = as tight as possible. I'm sure it varies from locale to locale, but when we had car seats, you could take them to any firestation and they'd come out and show you how to have it properly installed (as a bonus, if people came with inadequate seats, they would actually give them a new one...which was great for those that couldn't afford new ones) |

What should children call a step-grandparent? "that doesn't necessarily imply he's grampa" but he is, isn't he? Sounds like you are trying to give a title to biological grandparents vs. grandparents via marriage. The kids don't care about that at all. Hopefully both you and your mom can agree on that. |

Kids Website, is it a good idea? "The kid might not enjoy having that dug up when the teenage years come around" true, though a bigger concern would be having the teenage years' of posts on Facebook be dug up when they're adults. ;) |

Kids Website, is it a good idea? While protecting privacy is important, I don't think children's web sites disappeared due to that as much as it is that it's simply easier to use other social media today to handle that task much easier...facebook, instagram, flickr, etc are all a lot easier to set up and share your kids photos and the like with friends and family. |

Kindergarten Teacher teaching in Spanish, should I be concerned? Perhaps, but if the school is primarily latino, and primarily speaks Spanish, I don't think it's fair to tell the school to stop using Spanish. (Also, I have a hunch the school isn't teaching solely in Spanish...hard to say as we don't have enough info) |

Kids Website, is it a good idea? Not sure if this is really a parenting question as much as it is a web design question. |

Kindergarten Teacher teaching in Spanish, should I be concerned? Not sure why you got a downvote for this. It's a valid answer. |

Kindergarten Teacher teaching in Spanish, should I be concerned? 15% seems like a completely arbitrary number. We have schools that are 100% non-english in the US and the children are getting an education as good as anyone else. Yes, children should learn English in the US, and it sounds like they are at home, and of course will in English classes in the schools as they go through the system. |

Kindergarten Teacher teaching in Spanish, should I be concerned? @TorbenGundtofte-Bruun lots of parents in the US explicitly look for schools that teach in other languages than English. This is a good thing. Children's minds can adapt to multiple languages incredibly easily. |

Kindergarten Teacher teaching in Spanish, should I be concerned? Do you speak English at home? If so, he'll be fine (or, even at an advantage in life being multilingual). Kids at that age can pick up multiple languages relatively easily. |

What to look out for when buying a mosquito repellent (or alternatives) for my kids Ok, well, to each their own. Ceiling fans are a whole lot more expensive than screens, though. |

How does a parent that does not know a basic life skill make sure their child obtains that skill? What dave said. They need to make it a joint venture. Learn to cook together. That and watch lots of Alton Brown. |

What to look out for when buying a mosquito repellent (or alternatives) for my kids I'm confused as to why you'd be concerned about screens hampering air flow if you have ceiling fans on high-power anyways. |

At what age should I enroll my child in dental and vision plans? @Meg if the prescription is complex, I'd agree. And, in fact, the more I think about it, for children, having a local fitting and trying on of lenses is probably a good idea. But for teenagers or adults that fall into the 'common range' of prescriptions, you'd be surprised at how affordable the online options are. I now get my prescription glasses and sunglasses for about $50 a pair. |

What to look out for when buying a mosquito repellent (or alternatives) for my kids I'd suggest investing in screens. The reduction in air flow is minimal and likely a MUCH better option than having your kids sleep in Deet. Barring that, get some mosquito netting to sleep under (but then you might as well put screens on the windows.) |

What is the minimum amount of structure and rules that a child needs? I'd suggest couples/family therapy. There seems to be several issues at work here that need resolving. |
